COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State men’s basketball will play at Drake, Nov. 27, in the 2018 Mountain West/Missouri Valley Challenge, the conferences announced Thursday. The time and broadcast information for the game in Des Moines, Iowa will be announced at a later date.

In 2017, for the second-consecutive season, the Mountain West and Missouri Valley split the 10-game series, 5-5. The MW has an all-time series edge of 3-1-3 in seven previous Challenge seasons, including an overall advantage of 38-27 in games played in association with the series.

The matchup between the Broncos and Bulldogs will be one of three games played on the first day of the challenge.

Annual matchups for teams in the Challenge Series are based upon factors including the previous year’s achievements, records and RPI rankings, as well as projected rankings/strength of teams in the upcoming season, based upon composite sources. Each season is considered separately in terms of matchups, therefore, games from the previous year’s Challenge Series may not be returned. One MW team does not play in the Challenge Series over a two-year period.

This will mark the third all-time meeting between Boise State and Drake, as the two teams last played each other in head Leon Rice’s first two seasons at the helm. The first matchup in 2010 saw the Bulldogs claim the 72-69 victory in Des Moines, but the Broncos tied the all-time series at 1-1 the following season in 2011 with a 108-64 win at home.

The Blue and Orange shot 61 percent from the field and knocked down 14 3-pointers against Drake in the 2011 matchup. The 108 points from that day are the fourth most against a Division I opponent in program history.

Television rights for each Challenge Series contest will be controlled by the home team’s conference television agreement, which will dictate the distribution of the game and all related matters, including tip times.

Boise State is 4-1 all-time in MW/MVC Challenge games, including a 1-1 mark on the road. Boise State defeated eventual Final Four participant Loyola (Chicago) this past season at home, 87-53, in the latest edition of the challenge.

Drake finished 17-17 last season with a 10-8 conference record. The Bulldogs earned a bid to the 2018 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament and lost in the second round to the eventual champion, Northern Colorado.
