BOISE, Idaho - It was a rough game for Boise State’s women’s basketball team Tuesday night in Taco Bell Arena as the Broncos lost for the first time at home 70-47 to Syracuse. Kati Isham led the Broncos against the Orange with 14 points followed by Nicole Brady with eight. Poor shooting and rebounding plagued Boise State against a more athletic Syracuse squad as the visitors pulled away late in the first half. The Broncos fell to 4-3 with the loss while Syracuse remained undefeated at 6-0.

The game was ugly from a shooting standpoint as neither team shot well with Syracuse hitting 37.1 percent from the floor compared to Boise State’s 34 percent. Rebounding was one side as the Orange used their size and athletic ability to out rebound the Broncos 57 to 26 overall and 29 to eight in offensive boards, good for a 25 to nine advantage in second chance points. It also led to a 44 to 20 difference on points in the paint for the Orange.

The first half was close for the first 18 minutes before Syracuse finished the period on an 8-0 run in the final two minutes to take a 31-20 lead into halftime. During the period the Broncos experienced an eight minute scoring drought which began at the 15:20 mark with the score at 9-8 Orange. Boise State’s next field goal came on a Kinzi Poteet layup with 7:09 showing on the clock and the score at 15-11.

The closest Boise State could get in the second half was a nine-point deficit on a pair of Isham free throws to open the scoring four seconds into the period. The Orange responded with a 7-0 run to take a 40-24 lead with 16:24 to go. The game stayed between a 13 to 20 point spread for most of the final 16 minutes with Syracuse taking a game-high 25 point (70-45) advantage in the final minute of play.

It was a disappointing night for the Broncos who have played so well at home this year. Tuesday Boise State could not get open shots to fall for it from any where on the court as the Broncos turned in season low shooting percentages for overall field goal attempts and from the 3-point line of 34 (17-of-50) and 22.2 (4-of-18) percent respectively.

Syracuse did not fare much better finishing at 37.1 percent from the floor and 10 percent (2-of-20) from the 3-point arc. The Orange did have an advantage at the free-throw line making 16-of-21 attempts compared to 9-of-16 for Boise State.

Isham finished the night with 14 points, three rebounds, one assist and two steals to lead the Broncos. Brady followed with eight points and three rebounds, while Poteet added six points and team-high eight rebounds. Lauren Lenhardt had a season-low six points.

Iasia Hemingway led Syracuse with 30 points and eight rebounds followed by Kayla Alexander with 17 points and six boards. Carmen Tyson-Thomas and Shakeya Leary tied for the team-high for rebounds with 10 each.

Next up for Boise State is the third of a five-game homestand when the Broncos host Seattle University at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.
