Watch NBA Draft | Chandler Hutchison - Boise State Bio

Former Boise State guard Chandler Hutchison is one of 19 known players to receive an official invitation to the 2018 NBA Draft, which is set to take place Thursday, June 21 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Hutchison will wait for his name to be called in the green room at the Barclays Center.

The draft will broadcast on ESPN starting at 5 p.m. MT. Head coach Leon Rice will also attend the draft and join Hutchison in Brooklyn.

A recent graduate of Boise State, Hutchison is coming off a season where he averaged 20.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in leading the Broncos to a 23-9 record and a second-place finish in the Mountain West.

The Mission Viejo, Calif., native finished his Bronco career tied for first in career wins (87) while also reaching the school career top-10 lists in both points (1,478 – 9th) and rebounds (672 – 6th). His 13 career 20-point, 10-rebound games and 22 career double-doubles also puts him first and third, respectively, in Boise State school history.

The 2017-18 season saw Hutchison earn All-Mountain West First Team, USBWA All-District VIII and NABC All-District 17 First Team honors for the second-straight season. His 44 points against San Diego State (Jan. 13) gave him the single-game scoring record and later that week he was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week.

His senior campaign also saw him become the first Boise State player in school history to lead a team in points, rebounds, assists and steals, and ended the 2017-18 season as just one of two players in NCAA Division I to accomplish the feat.

Furthermore, Hutchison’s averages in points, rebounds, assists and steals in 2017-18 make him just the second player in NCAA Division I since 2009-10 to finish a season averaging at least 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, joining Evan Turner (2009-10, Ohio State).

See below for perspective and notes in regards to Thursday night’s draft…

If Hutchison were to get drafted…

…He would be the seventh Bronco taken in the NBA Draft in program history, joining: Roberto Bergersen (1999), Vince Hinchen (1984), Larry McKinney (1981), Steve Connor (1978), Clyde Dickey (1974) and Bill Otey (1970).

…He would be the 24th Mountain West draft selection in conference history.

If Hutchison were to get drafted in the first round…

…He would be the first first-round pick in Boise State history.

…He would be the 13th first-round pick in Mountain West history, joining: Marcus Banks (13th / 2003, UNLV), Rafael Araujo (8th / 2004, BYU), Andrew Bogut (1st / 2005, Utah), Danny Granger (17th / 2005, New Mexico), Jason Smith (20th / 2007, Colorado State), J.R. Giddens (30th / 2008, New Mexico), Jimmer Fredette (10th / 2011, BYU), Kawhi Leonard (15th / 2011, San Diego State), Anthony Bennett (1st / 2013, UNLV), Tony Snell (20th / 2013, New Mexico), Rashad Vaughn (17th / 2015, UNLV) and Larry Nance (27th / 2015, Wyoming).

…He would be one of just a few players to be a first-round draft pick that also earned an undergraduate degree. According to Sports Illustrated’s latest mock draft Tuesday morning, the projected first-round players who also earned a degree include: Mikal Bridges (Villanova), Chandler Hutchison (Boise State) and Keita Bates-Diop (Ohio State).

…Boise State would be one of just a handful of schools to have a first-round draft pick in both the NFL and NBA Drafts, as Leighton Vander Esch was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round (19th overall). According to Sports Illustrated’s latest mock draft Tuesday morning, the projected schools who already had a player go in the first round of the NFL Draft and also expect to have an NBA first rounder include: Alabama (Collin Sexton), Boise State (Chandler Hutchison), Maryland (Kevin Huerter), Ohio State (Keita Bates-Diop), Oklahoma (Trae Young), UCLA (Aaron Holiday) and USC (De’Anthony Melton).

*The only other school who was a part of the Mountain West at the time of having first-round picks in both the NFL and NBA Drafts was Utah in 2005 with Alex Smith and Andrew Bogut. Fresno State accomplished the feat in 2010 (Ryan Matthews and Paul George), but were in the WAC at the time.
