Sparky Anderson Born: 2/22/1934 - Died: 11/4/2010 - Age: 76 - Cause of death: complications from dementia - Noted For: major leager; member of the Philadelphia Phillies (1959). Manager of the Cincinnati Reds (1970-78) and Detroit Tigers (1979-95). Under his guidance, the Cincinnati Reds (the "Big Red Machine") won four NL championships and were the top baseball dynasty of the 1970's. Won three World Series titles; two with Cincinnati (1974, 75) and one with Detroit (1984). His 2,274 career wins is third on the all-time list. Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame (2000).

George Blanda - Born: 9/17/1927 - Died: 9/27/2010 - Age: 83 - Cause of death: Natural causes - Noted For: quarterback & kicker, member of the Chicago Bears (1949, 50-58), Baltimore Colts (1950), Houston Oilers (1960-66), and Oakland Raiders (1967-75). AFL Player of the Year (1961); AFC Player of the Year (1970); holds NFL records for most seasons played (26) and most games played (340); enshrined in the football Hall of Fame (1981).

George Steinbrenner - Born: 7/4/1930 - Died: 7/13/2010 - Age: 80 - Cause of death: heart attack - Noted For: baseball executive; owned the New York Yankees (1973-2010). Banned from baseball for paying someone to dig up dirt on Yankee player Dave Winfield, who had sued him for breach of contract (1990-93).
