Boise State Women's Basketball to Play at Idaho State on Thursday, Host Pepperdine on Sunday

Boise State (2-0) hits the road for a big intrastate rivalry game at Pocatello against Idaho State University (1-1) Thursday night. Tip-off for the 65th meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (Mountain) in Reed Gym. The Broncos will then return home to host Pepperdine University out of the West Coast Conference at 2:00 p.m. in Taco Bell Arena.
A Quick Look at this Week’s Opponents
Idaho State: The Bengals are members of the Big Sky Conference and are former league rivals of the Broncos from 1982-96. Idaho State, who is picked to finish fifth in the BSC, has opened the season 1-1 losing its opener at UTEP 79-63 last Saturday, Nov. 12, before rebounding to defeat New Mexico State 59-42 on Monday, Nov. 14. Lindsey Reed leads ISU at 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, followed by Cydney Horton averaging 10.5 points and 8.0 rebounds, and Chelsea Pickering at 10.0 ppg and 4.5 rpg. The team averages 61 points and 43.5 boards per game while allowing 60.5 points and 42 rebounds. Boise State leads the overall series 46-18 and has won eight straight.
Last Year Between Idaho State and Boise State: The Broncos led from the start defeating the Bengals in Boise 73-48. Janie Bos, Kati Isham and Nicole Brady led Boise State with 10 points apiece, while Bos and Kinzi Poteet recorded team-high seven rebounds each. Lindsey Reed led ISU with 14 points and five boards, followed by Cydney Horton with nine points and team-best eight rebounds. Boise State shot 44.3 percent from the floor 26.3 percent from the arc and 73.7 percent from th efoul line, meanwhile, ISU countered at 28.4 percent from the floor, 11.1 percent from 3-point range and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line. Boise State dominated the paint 34-20 in points.
Pepperdine: The Waves are part of the West Coast Conference where they are picked to place third in the 2011-12 league race. Pepperdine will play at Cal State Fullerton Wednesday, then host Fresno State on Friday before traveling to Boise. The Waves lost their season opener 89-57 at Tennessee last Sunday. They were led by Jazmine Jackson with 17 points and five rebounds, followed by Lauren Bell with eight points and two boards, four assists and three steals.
Last Year Between Pepperdine and Boise State: Pepperdine defeated the Broncos in Malibu, Calif., 82-65. Turnovers killed Boise State who committed 26 resulting in a 38-15 advantage in points off turnovers for the Waves. Pepperdine also hit 11-of-30 3-point attempts as they pulled away midway through the first half. Julia Marshall led the Broncos with 13 points followed by Janie Bos with 11 and Janelle Kearney with 10. Katie Menton led the Waves with 18 points, Jazmine Jackson was next with 12 points. Boise State shot 47.3 percent from the floor, 16.7 percent from the arc and 76.9 percent from the free-throw line. Pepperdine shot 42.6 percent from the court, 36.7 percent from the arc and 72.2 percent from the charity stripe.

Boise State opened the season with a home sweep over Southern Oregon (93-55) and Weber State (86-68).
In the season opener versus SOU the Broncos struggled getting their shots to fall in the first half and trailed twice by one point in the early moments of the game before pulling away for the 38-point victory. Boise State hit 58.5 percent from the floor in the second half after a poor 28 percent shooting in the first. Five Broncos had double-figure scoring games led by Diana Lee with a career-high 16 points, Nicole Brady had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Versus Weber State the Broncos led from tip to the final buzzer as they pulled out to a 22-point half time lead before winning it by 18 at the end, 86-68. The Broncos committed 15 turnovers in the second half which the Wildcats turned into 23 points. Kati Isham led Boise State with 18 points followed by Heather Pilcher with 16 and Lauren Lenhardt with 11 points and eight boards. Nicole Brady recorded a team and career-high 13 rebounds.
On the week, Isham led Boise State averaging 16 points followed by Pilcher at 12 points and 3.5 rebounds. Diana Lee averaged 11 points and 3.5 assists, while Mandy Munns finished with 10 points per game. The Broncos shot 45 percent (67-149) from the floor, 25.8 percent (8-31) from the 3-point arc and 64.9 percent (37-57) from the free-throw line. Boise State averaged 89.5 points and 54 rebounds per game while allowing 61.5 points and 33.5 rebounds per game.
New Era Begins
A new era begins with the 2011-12 season as Boise State moves into the Mountain West effective July 1, 2011.
The Broncos left the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) following the 2010-11 campaign after ten years of membership.
Boise State joins Colorado State University, San Diego State University, Texas Christian University (TCU), University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), University of New Mexico, University of Wyoming and the U.S. Air Force Academy as members of the Mountain West.

Boise State returns four starters in Kati Isham (senior - guard) 31 career starts, Heather Pilcher (senior - wing) 37 career starts, Diana Lee (sophomore - point guard) 28 starts and Lauren Lenhardt (junior - center) 30 career starts. In addition, they return four other players that have started at least once in their careers: Julia Marshall (RS-sophomore - guard) 24 starts, Nicole Brady (RS-senior) one start, Kinzi Poteet (junior - forward) six starts and Cinnamon Lister (sophomore - guard) one start.
The Broncos return seven letterwinners and three redshirts from last year.
The top-two scorers and three of the top-four return led by Kati Isham (12.7 ppg) who ranked first last year and 10th in the WAC, Lauren Lenhardt was second (12.2 ppg) and 13th in the WAC, followed by Diana Lee who was fourth at 6.6 ppg.
Three of the top four rebounders are back led by Lauren Lenhardt who was second on the team last year at 5.6 rpg, Kinzi Poteet was third at 4.7 rpg, followed by Heather Pilcher at 3.2 rpg.
Diana Lee was the only Bronco to earn WAC postseason honors last year having been named to the WAC All-Freshman Team.
Boise State returns 74.2 percent of its points (1,544-of-2,081), 66.8 percent of its rebounds (796-of-1,192), 77.2 percent of assists (355-of-434), 67 percent of blocks (73-of-109) and 82.3 percent (150-of-181) steals.
What’s New This Year
Four new recruits, all true freshmen, in Lexie Der (will redshirt), Keiahnna Engel two-time Alaska State Player of the Year and 2011 Parade All-American, Riley Holsinger a two-time all-conference player and all-state honoree as a senior out of Spokane, Wash., and Amber Vandiver a two-time all-state honoree, once in Wyoming 2010 and once in Idaho at Boise’s Capital High School in 2011.
Ben Finkbeiner joined the coaching staff during the summer and will assist with recruiting and defense.
The Arguinchona Basketball Complex a new state of the art basketball locker room facility opened this summer. The two story 10,000-square foot facility features locker rooms, lounges, theater-style film room, study room and kitchen area for each basketball team (men and women).
