COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo – Boise State forward Tyson Degenhart was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week for the third consecutive week, the league announced Monday. Degenhart scored nine of his 11 points in the second half of Boise State’s neutral-site win against Washington State, Wednesday at Spokane Arena.

Degenhart joins Air Force’s Ethan Taylor as three-time award winners this year. Taylor won the three MW Freshman of the Week honors prior to Degenhart’s streak starting. San Jose State’s Alvaro Cardenas won the first award of the year.

Against the Cougars, Degenhart delivered down the stretch. He made a pair of free throws with 3:14 left to give Boise State a 44-42 advantage, a lead it did not surrender. Degenhart made sure of that, hitting a three-pointer with 2:05 left to push the Bronco lead to four. Playing in front of hundreds of family and friends, the Spokane native logged a career-high 38 minutes and led Boise State in rebounding with six boards.

The Broncos went on to a 58-52 victory against a Washington State team that is ranked in the top 50 at KenPom.com, the highest-rated win for the Broncos this season and by any Mountain West team last week.

It was Boise State’s second win against a power five conference opponent this season, after beating Ole Miss, Nov. 21, at the Charleston Classic. Degenhart had eight points off the bench against the Rebels, including seven straight to start Boise State’s decisive second-half run in that game. This is the second time in program history Boise State has beaten two power five schools in the same season (2013-14).

Degenhart has started the last seven games for Boise State, scoring in double figures in each. As a starter, he is playing 32.8 minutes per game and averaging 14.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 56.7 percent from the floor, 52 percent from three-point range and 70 percent at the free throw line.

Boise State opens Mountain West play Dec. 28, at home against Fresno state. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MT at ExtraMile Arena.
