A Guide to NCAA Regulations re: Recruiting

A Guide to NCAA Regulations re: Recruiting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You are a representative of athletics interest if you:
1. Participate in or have been a member of any booster or alumni groups

2. Make or have made a donation to any of the BSU athletic programs

3. Provide or have helped to arrange employment for student-athletes

4. Have been involved in promoting BSU athletics in any way

5. Are the parent or legal guardian of an enrolled student-athlete

6. Participated as a varsity athlete at BSU

According to NCAA rules, once an individual has been identified as an institutional
"representative of athletic interest" the individual retains that title for life.

Rules to Remember:
* Only NCAA certified coaches and university staff members can be involved in the recruiting process.

* The prospective student-athlete remains a prospect even after signing a National Letter of Intent or financial aid award.

Impermissible Activities:
* A booster may not have any contact with a prospective student-athlete.
Contact includes phone calls, letters and faxes.

* A booster may not provide tickets, transportation, or room and board for a
prospect, coach or relative to visit the campus.

* A booster may not entertain in any way or give gifts, benefits, and free or
reduced services to any prospect, coach or relative.

* A booster may not contact a prospect's coach, principal, or counselor
in an attempt to evaluate the prospect.

Permissible Activities:
* A booster may view a prospect's game as long as no contact is made
* If an established relationship already exists between booster and prospect,
the relationship may continue as long as these relationships are not for
recruitment purposes.
* If unavoidable incidental contact occurs, only normal greetings may take place.
* A booster may receive calls from prospective student-athletes only if the
prospect initiates the call and no recruitment takes place during the conversation.
Limit only information to the university in general.

THE ENROLLED STUDENT-ATHLETE EXTRA BENEFITS

An ENROLLED STUDENT-ATHLETE is a student who presently is participating
in athletics or has complete his/her eligibility but is still enrolled at the school.

An ENTRA BENEFIT is any special gift or arrangement providen to an enrolled
student-athlete, relative, or friend that is not available to the general student
bodyof the institution or espressly authorized by NCAA legislation.

Extra Benefits prohibited would include:
* Special discounts, free or reduced fees for purchases or services

* Loans or co-signs of any kind to the student-athlete or relatives.

* Giving money, clothing, equipment, or other merchandise.

* Providing a meal at a commercial location or restaurant.

* Use of a car or other mode of transportation, housing.

commercial product or services.

The above are not intended to list ALL rules on recruiting and if you have
further questions call the Compliance Office at (208) 426-5185 if you are
uncertain about an NCAA rule.

When you are faced with a situation and unsure how to respond, you are urged to contact the Compliance Office and remember, if you have to think twice about the propriety of any action, ask before you act !*

Hotel Room Reservations in Downtown Atlanta for Georgia game

I have several hotel rooms in downtown Atlanta within easy walking distance of the Georgia Dome and Centennial Park for Friday and Saturday nights of the Georgia game. The reservations are for the Marriott Atlanta Downtown (SOLD OUT) or the Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Downtown, and the rates are much lower than the current prevailing rate. E-mail me at gamedaytravel1@yahoo.com for details if you are interested. Please list the game (BSU vs. UGA) in your e-mail.

Solid Verbal podcast

7/25 - interview with Mike Leach. He rips craig james a new one. It appears it was much worse than was reported at the time - there was no such thing as the younger james getting locked in a shed, the elder craig james hired a PR firm a few days before the story broke, and he was trash-talking Mike Leach anonymously using aliases on national blogs.

Look! New message board features!

Hey everyone,

It's an exciting time for Blue Turf not just because football season is around the corner.

We're have unveiled some cool technology upgrades recently.

We now have an Ignore feature, which will allow you to hide the posts of specific users on this board.

Posters can ignore another user by clicking the “Ignore” link beneath the posters name, subscription badge and avatar.

Users can un-ignore users or view ignored posts as follows: When in a thread, open the “Display Options” drop down on the blue bar at the top of the thread. The options will include “Show All Ignored” and “Hide All Ignored.” Users can un-ignore another by clicking “Show All Ignored” and then clicking “Remove Ignore” located beneath the poster’s avatar/subscription badge.

The moderators also have a new tool available to them allowing them to merge two or more threads into one. Let's say there are three posts on the board discussing Kelly Greer's great feature on Boise State wrestling. Moderators will be able to combine those three discussion into one thread.

If there are any questions about the new tools please ask here and I will get them answered.

Skiers and/or Snowboarders - Please Help

I'm getting my MBA and our project team is trying to understand Americans willingness to travel outside of the country during our summer months to ski and/or snowboard. We have created a brief survey and are trying to get avid skiers and snowboarders to complete the survey since we feel this is a competitive target for our client during our summer months / their winter months. Unfortunately I went to school in Florida and know very few skiers or snowboarders and I was hoping you all may be more of the target audience.

Thanks in advance for completing.

Shane Rhodes WR?

I saw an article that said BSU had already taken a WR in this class and won't be taking another. Is it Rhodes? His film made him look more like a slot receiver than rb. Can't see who else would be projected at WR. Also was surprised that they are only taking 1 wr, is the depth chart that deep. From memory Burroughs was the only one taken last year.

Please clue me in, thanks

American Football in Europe

Hi there. I just wanted to let you guys know about a great opportunity to keep playing football even if the NFL or CFL isn't immediately an option for players. All over Europe there are decent football teams playing by our rules and they are always looking for more good players. Some teams pay for living expenses and some pay salaries. It's very important to get with a good organization out there since some of them have a poor reputation. You can use a reputable service called Euro Elite American Football in Europe.Their website is http://euroeliteaf.com. They have actual experience dealing with the European teams and make sure you get in with a quality organization that will treat you well. You basically upload a profile to their website and then they do everything they can to align you with a team. It's worth a shot for those of you who want to see the world and want to keep the pro football dream alive. Players are starting to come from the Europe League and make good careers back here. It can be a good stepping stone for young athletes.

Got a gem in Byrd

Florida Gator fan here...Byrd attends the same HS I played for and graduated from here in Florida. I played with his father who was a HEAD HUNTER at saftey back in the day. And Jamie Jr is cut from the same cloth. Kid has a knack for finding the football and punishes the ball carrier upon arrival. I know for a fact that the kid is super coachable as I worked with him personally in basketball. He isn't a basketball player so to speak but picked up every drill with ease and done them all better than any other kid in the gym. I think this kid will be big time for you guys...congrats.

Do NOT post articles from any of these sources

These newspapers and other media outlets (below) have banned together and are actively SUING any and all internet sites or blogs, etc., which use articles which originated from ANY of these sources. Just a heads up here guys. Frankly it's NEVER okay to post an article from ANY other internet site. Always best to just provide a URL link to the story in question.

Newspaper Blacklist
Do NOT blog or post ANY stories coming from these sources. These newspapers have aligned with Righthaven to sue bloggers, small businesses and non-profits in "shake down" lawsuits.

Bryan Harsin Question

Hello, I am a Longhorn fan, and I come here in peace!

Harsin's name is being floated as the next OC for Texas. I was wondering if any Bronco fans could comment on him, and his role at BSU? How involved is he with game plans and play calling? How is his recruiting?

Thanks in advance. I have liked your program and respected how you have built it. Also, I loved your beating of OU, as one would expect from any Texas fan.
