Earlier in the week with rumors that the Cowboys planned to sell out to shut down the Broncos’ running attack, many figured Boise State would feature a heavy dose of big passing plays. The latter ended up being true in the first half, but somehow the running game still over-shadowed the passing. Riding on two touchdowns from Jeremy McNichols and one from Alexander Mattison, the Broncos put up 21 points in the first half. Rypien has been looking for the deep ball early and often, connecting on a big play to Wilson to set up a TD and almost connecting with TE Jake Knight. Rypien has spread the ball around though, with at least six different players catching a pass.

The Cowboys have moved the ball well also, looking very balanced and featuring many players in addition to Hill. Their passing game has looked sharp at the expense of weak safety coverage from the Broncos and a huge height advantage with the Cowboys 6’6” WR. The Boise State defense has looked off for the first time all season and Wyoming is taking advantage, putting up 17 first half points. The second touchdown was aided by an interception late in the first half.

Going into the second half, the first priority is once again for the Broncos to take care of the football. They had two first half turnovers, and though once may be considered a fluke, it still contributed to seven points for the Cowboys. Offensively, the Broncos have been moving the ball with ease both running and passing and need to continue to do so while taking care of the football. Defensively, adjustments need to be made. They may have to sacrifice safety help in the run game in order to play getting against the pass. Hill is getting his yards but they are really getting hurt in against passing plays. The Cowboys are doing everything they can to keep the game close and if they can rattle the offense more, could pull this one out late if the Broncos defense continues to play like it did in the first half, having yet to force a punt.
