DALLAS – Boise State running back George Holani was named to the Doak Walker Award Preseason Watch List, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced on Wednesday.
This is the second-straight season Holani has been named to the watch list for the award, which is annually presented to the nation’s top college running back. He is one of three Mountain West running backs on the list this season.
Holani earned a spot on the All-MW Second Team a season ago, rushing for 1,157 yards and scoring 10 rushing touchdowns. The Bellflower, Calif., native was also successful as a receiver, adding three scoring grabs and recording 151 yards on 24 receptions.
He posted six 100-yard rushing performances in 2022, highlighted by a career-high 157-yard effort in a 40-20 win against Fresno State on Oct. 8. He also accumulated a career-high 225 all-purpose yards in Boise State’s 30-7 win against UT Martin on Sept. 17.
The recognition adds to Holani's extensive preseason accolades. He was named to the MW Preseason All-Conference Team and was selected first team All-MW by both Athlon Sports and Phil Steele Magazine. He was also named to the watch lists for the Maxwell and Paul Hornung Awards.
Ten semifinalists for the award will be announced in November, with that list paired down to three finalists later in the month. The 2023 winner of the Doak Walker Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show scheduled for Dec. 7.
