Breydon Boyd always liked Boise State, even during the few months he was committed to Iowa State. He originally visited Boise State for a Junior Day back in March and enjoyed it, saying “Boise is totally lit! The coaching staff and all those winning seasons. They are winners.” However, he eventually committed to Iowa State, citing their academics as well as football.

As sometimes happens with recruiting, things took a turn. Boise State kept in contact with Breydon and he liked what they had to say. The coaching staff told him he was the top linebacker on their board and he scheduled another unofficial visit to get another look at the Broncos. During all of this, Iowa State kept recruiting linebackers, more than they had told him and he felt like they weren’t being honest with him, so he decommitted and Boise State was the strong favorite in his mind.

At the time, Boyd told Rivals “Boise State is definitely number one out of my current offers, then Colorado State, Fresno State and Boston College. Other schools are hitting me up too. I want to get another look at the academics at Boise when I go up there.”

Everything seemed to pass the test during his visit this weekend and Breydon committed to Boise State on his second day on campus. “The coaches were so excited when I committed. There were hugs and fist bumps all around. It’s like a family up there. I got to know Ben Weaver and Leighton Vander Esch pretty well. I knew it was the place to be. Everything is amazing. The winning program was a huge aspect for me. Campus was amazing. I liked the academics too. I’m planning to major in business with a minor in entrepreneurship. I like everything about it up there.”

The 6’4” 200 pound player out of powerhouse Katy in Texas will be playing middle linebacker for the Broncos. “The Mike linebacker is really similar to what I’m doing right now at Katy. On my first visit, I was in the film room with Coach Avalos and I was following him play by play with no problem.” On film, he seems to fit the mold of what Avalos looks for in his linebackers: aggressive, disciplined players who are physical and always around the ball. Boyd describes his play as "Definitely aggressive. I'm not afraid of anything once I get out on the field. I'm much more a run stopper right now, that's my strength. I’m not afraid of competition. I will go up against anyone." He seems to plug up gaps pretty quickly and has good size for a MLB.

Boyd is rated a 3 star recruit and he becomes the fourth member of the 2017 class. He is the first linebacker and the first player out of Texas in this class. He cites Coach Avalos and Coach Urscher as his main recruiters during the process. His high school program, Katy High School, won a state championship last season and Boyd mentioned Boise State is trying to recruit a few other players from Katy.
