Bronco Student-Athletes Succeed in the Classroom


BOISE, Idaho ? [/B]Boise State continues to excel in the classroom, with Bronco student-athletes combining for a school record 3.08 overall cumulative grade-point average this past semester.

The 2012 fall semester marked the 11th-straight semester the overall athletic department cumulative GPA was 3.00-or-better. It also marked the second-consecutive semester the overall GPA for an individual semester was at least 3.00.

Sixty-three (63) percent of Boise State student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.00 or higher this past fall semester, which was just two percentage points short of the record 65 percent who accomplished the feat in the spring of 2012.

Women's golf led all Bronco teams in the fall semester with a 3.58 GPA, along with having the department's highest team men's cumulative GPA at a record 3.52.

Golf posted the top academic mark among the men's teams with a record 3.25 fall semester GPA. The men's tennis team has the highest cumulative GPA at 3.18.

Three other teams also increased their cumulative GPAs to record highs. The women's swimming and diving team is at 3.39, softball at 3.29 and football at 2.98. Sixty (60) football players had a 3.00 semester or cumulative GPA at the end of the fall semester.

A total of 38 student-athletes earned their undergraduate degree in December of 2012.

Boise State's dance team and cheerleaders also excelled in the classroom this past semester.

The Mane Line Dancers recorded a GPA average of 3.34, while the Bronco Cheerleaders posted an average of 3.20 for the 2012 fall semester. The Bronco Cheerleaders also have a cumulative GPA of 3.50.[/B]
