BOISE, Idaho - Boise State Athletics surpassed its all-time best NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and was within one percentage point of the all-time Mountain West record, according to data released by the NCAA, Tuesday. The latest figures include the cohort that entered college during the 2015-16 academic year, while the four-class average includes student-athletes who entered college between the 2012-13 and 2015-16 academic years.

The Broncos recorded a four-class average GSR of 93 percent. Boise State has set or tied its department record in each of the last 14 reports, raising its GSR 23 percentage points in the process.

"The pinnacle of the student-athlete experience is earning a degree," said Gabe Rosenvall, associate athletic director for student-athlete development. "We are very proud of the growth we have made in helping Bronco student-athletes reach that life-changing achievement. It is a complete team effort, starting with the student-athletes themselves and including the coaches, academic staff and other members of the Boise State Athletics support system who make academic success a priority."

Boise State's GSR of 93 percent is the top overall score in the Mountain West this year and tied for the fourth-highest score in conference history. Air Force (twice) and Utah State each recorded a score of 94 percent in previous reports.

A school-record six programs – men's basketball, women's basketball, women's golf, gymnastics, women's tennis and volleyball – recorded perfect GSR scores of 100 percent.

It is the first perfect GSR for Boise State men's basketball in program history. Women's golf has recorded a perfect score each of the last 17 reports.

The football program's GSR of 91 percent tied its all-time best and ranked second in the MW, just two percentage points behind Air Force, and tied for 20th nationally among Football Bowl Subdivision schools.

Each year, the NCAA publicly announces the GSR of all Division I institutions. The graduation-rate data are based on a six-year cohort prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, the most recent version including freshmen scholarship student-athletes that entered college in 2014.

The Division I Board of Directors created the GSR in response to Division I college and university presidents who wanted data that more accurately reflected the mobility of college students than the federal graduation rate. The federal rate counts any student who leaves a school as an academic failure, no matter whether he or she enrolls at another school. Also, the federal rate does not recognize students who enter school as transfer students.

The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere. This calculation makes it a more complete and accurate look at student-athlete success.
