2018 Offer List
This is a basic attempt to look at the chances Boise State has to land each recruit it has offered looking solely at their offer list. This is based on trends the past few seasons and how Boise State usually fairs when in a recruiting battle with other schools. Now this is not a prediction piece. If I list that the Broncos usually get a player competing with ____ school, it doesn't mean they will land each player with an offer from that school. Also, BSU isn't going to have room for every player who they have a good chance to land. Additionally, keep in mind each individual is different and will commit to a school for different reasons. In the past, Boise State has landed players who have had USC, Notre Dame, or other big offers. Other times, they've lost a battle to a MWC school. But here are some general tendencies being looked at to give us a better idea if Boise State has a great chance, good chance, or not much of a chance to land a player:

1) If a player's offer list is primarily Mountain West or other Go5 schools, Boise State almost always can land that player if they want to and have room. Some exceptions include BYU (either preference due to LDS or they like the school better), Houston (at least Tom Herman era), or proximity (some recruits prefer to stay closer to home.

2) Usually, if a player has offers from 2nd or 3rd tier P5 schools, Boise State has a good chance to land a player. Sometimes a player will use P5 status as a tie-breaker, but many view Boise State on par or better with one of those schools. Regardless, they have a proven tracking record competing or beating out schools like: Oregon State, Washington State, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado, Iowa State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, among others.

3) If a player has an offer from a top program, that often significantly decreases the likelihood of Boise State being able to land a recruit. Now, that doesn't mean they don't have a chance, just it is less likely. Jermani Brown had Wisconsin and Michigan State offers listed, Kelemente turned down a last minute USC offer, and Dylan Sumner Gardner has a massive offer list when he flipped from Texas A&M to BSU. Sometimes the BSU coaching staff builds a great relationship and is able to land a player. Two other things to look for here. One, if there's only one big school on their offer list, this (obviously) helps the Broncos. It's easier to go up against one big school than a field of them. Second, often a player was offered from a top tier school, but the offer can no longer exist if a school fills the position or fills their open scholarships. Paying attention to how many commits a school has at each position is important, as it can mean a player at the level of a top tier can suddenly become more available to Boise State. Schools like this include: Washington, USC, Oregon, Cal, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and Stanford. The Broncos have done a great job in the past staying with a player committed or heavily interested in these schools and then secure a commitment when they become available. Think Jabril Frazier and Bubba Ogbebor.

I'll start flushing this out more over the next day or two. But wanted to post what I had so far.

Recruits committed to other schools not listed. Again, just because their offer list is full of schools Boise State usually beats out or has a history of beating out doesn't mean BSU will land the player or I am predicting where they will go. This is merely an observation in trends and applying those observations to their offer list so far to give all of us a better focus on which recruits are more likely to be in play.

Quarterback: Even though they have their QB commit, it's still interesting to look at offer lists.

  • Tanner McKee: Holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, among others. Great example of someone who is very unlikely to end up at Boise State.
  • Brevin White: Despite holding offers from Arizona State, Utah, Washington and Tennessee, the Broncos were considered among the front runners for White before moving on to Wilson. Washington offer is a good example of that school finding their QB, thus taking them out of the equation in White's recruitment.
  • Zach Wilson (commit): Fits into the MWC offer list category (Utah State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, UNLV). Word is that list would've grown a lot if he didn't commit so soon.

Running Back:

  • Kirby Bennet: Offer list looks to be almost half the P5.
  • Chris Brown Jr: 8 PAC12 schools make this difficult for Boise State
  • Kazmeir Allen (commit): Arizona and most of the MWC. He was between Arizona and Boise State all along, so that would align well with the tendencies discussed above.
  • Danny Smith: Boise State, SDSU, other Go5 schools.
  • Andrew VanBuren: An interesting name here. Gut says he's destined for PAC, which may be a possibility with Arizona, Colorado and UCLA. If Washington gets involved, forget about it, but for now, it remains interesting.
  • Zidane Thomas: Sounds like Iowa and Boise State are the top 2 schools in his mind currently, but said Kansas State has been showing new interest.
  • Ta’Zhawn Henry: Did make the cut of his list, with schools like Iowa State, TCU, Arizona, Baylor, Oregon State, and Colorado making the cut.
  • Greg Bell (JUCO): His list is compromised of Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Fresno State, and Louisville.

Wide Receiver:

  • Amon-Ra St Brown: Beyond massive offer list
  • Jalen Hall: Same as above
  • Chase Cota: And again
  • Drue Jackson: Has narrowed list down a bit to incluce: Boise State, Houston, Louisville, Texas Tech, Utah Washington State (beat out Colorado, Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin)
  • Ke’von Ahmad: Here is a 4 star who peaks my interest a bit because his offer list is still relatively small and competitive. Baylor, Houston, Illinois, Kansas, Louisville, Northwestern Vanderbilt are all schools they could in theory compete with.
  • Dylan Thomas: Looks like all the PAC but the top tier ones. Don't think he will fall through the cracks though.
  • Khalil Shakir: Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, BYU, Washington State and UCLA
  • Gunner Romney: Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Utah, Iowa State
  • Daniel Arias: His recruiting keeps trending upward. Currently Colorado, Oregon State, SDSU, and some MWC. It's very likely one of these 3-4 guys above deal with a PAC12 numbers game, but too early to tell.
  • Billy Bowens: BYU and MWC
  • Michael Washington: BYU, Hawaii, SJSU, Utah State, Tulane
Tight End:

  • Taeveon Le: BYU, Colorado State, Iowa State, Utah State, and a mess of Ivy League

Offensive Line:

  • Alec Anderson: Boise State should battle Oregon State and Wazzu til the end. Seems like the lineman they miss on every year though, just a gut feeling.
  • Marco Brewer: UCLA Oregon State, and Washington State, plus some MWC offers. Same as above most likely, but perhaps they land one of the two.
  • Garrett Curran: Washington State and half the MWC.
  • Noel Ofori-Nyadu: 3 star has a small offer list so far. Puts BSU in a good position.
  • Jarrett Patterson: Arizona State, Cal, Washington State, Utah. BSU got in on them early but lots of PAC12 to compete with.
  • Mike Ruth: Arizona State, Texas Tech, Miami, Missouri, plus a few more BIG12.
  • Steve Jones: BSU got to him early, but his offer list looks to be too much
  • Sam Vakalahi: Bama, ND, Washington, plus another dozen or so.
  • Alama Uluave: Wazzu and MWC. With the OL, will probably end up being a case where Cougars will up spots and Broncos end up with 1 or 2 of these guys.
  • Kekaniokoa Gonzalez: Air Force, UNLV, New Mexico. Things looking good here.
  • Jacob Isaia: His offer list is huge.

Defensive Tackle:

  • Junior Angilau: Alabama, USC, Washington, Oregon, Texas and those are just the tops.
  • Tommy Togiai: Out of Idaho but a national recruit.
  • Tyler Manoa: Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Oregon State, UCLA, Utah.
  • Jackson Cravens: Arizona, Michigan State, Utah, Washington
  • Josh Walker: Boise State doesn't make his top list, which is made of Arizona, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, UNC, Rutgers and Wake Forest.
  • Scale Igiehon: Another case of Boise State jumping on him early, and being severely under-recruited.

Defensive End/STUD:

  • Blake Kuithe: I'll keep the Kuithe twins up because it's a great example of these patterns and tendencies just being plain wrong sometimes. Offers from Utah, Colorado, Iowa State, SDSU would've meant BSU had a good shot but could've seen any of those schools get him. Spurned them all and they went to Rice. Assuming a location thing, but just goes to show there are always surprises.
  • Matthew Cindric: Half of the PAC12
  • Andy Koch: Chose Oregon State over Arizona, BYU, Iowa State, Colorado, Washington State
  • Paul Maile: Usual PAC12 culprits, plus Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin
  • Demitri Washington: Washington State, Cal, then Ivy League and MWC
  • Kukea Emmsley: Oregon State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Oregon State

Linebacker:

  • Phillip Mills (commit): BSU getting on him early and recruiting never picking up were big factors here. His offer list was Washington State and most of the Mountain West.
  • Solomon Tuliaupupu: National recruit
  • Jack Lamb: National recruit
  • Brandon Hawkins (commit) Also had Indiana, Houston, Colorado State and a mess of Go5 Texas schools.
  • Matthew Tago: USC, other PAC 12, other MWC
  • Kana’i Muago: Cal, Oregon State, Vanderbilt, Washington State, Cal
  • Andrew Mataafa
  • Clyde Moore: Picked Colorado over Arizona State and MWC, probably case of "best offer" here
  • Tysean White: MWC offers
  • MJ Tafisi: BYU, Cal, Oregon, Utah
  • Jacob Mangum-Farrar: Cal, Houston, Ole Miss, Utah, Vanderbilt
  • DJ Schramm (commit): Offers from Army, Air Force, SJSU and some FCS.

Cornerback:

- Desmond Talley: Like Mills, this is a talented player who hasn't gotten the offers one would think. With just BYU, New Mexico and SJSU, this puts Boise State in a great position.

Safety:

  • Aashari Crosswell: He is being nationally recruited. Huge offer list and for good reason.
  • Kenny Churchwell: Arizona, Cal, Utah, Washington State, Hawaii
  • Quinn Brinnon: Basically the MWC but his recruiting is growing.
  • Rocky Katoanga: Currently has Washington State, Hawaii, Navy, UNLV, SJSU

Athlete:

  • Devon Cooley: This list looks tough but not completely out of the picture. Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon, UCLA, Washington State
  • JR Justice: Announced a top 3 of Arizona, USC, SDSU
  • Tariq Bracy: Cal, ND, Utah, Washington State
  • Brant Kuithe: I'll keep the Kuithe twins up because it's a great example of these patterns and tendencies just being plain wrong sometimes. Offers from Utah, Colorado, Iowa State, SDSU would've meant BSU had a good shot but could've seen any of those schools get him. Spurned them all and they went to Rice. Assuming a location thing, but just goes to show there are always surprises.
