BOISE, Idaho - Earlier this week, the City of Boise’s Planning and Zoning Commission granted approval to Boise State Athletics for the use of lights at Boas Soccer Complex, the home of Boise State women’s soccer.
The commission approved Boise State’s application for an update to its conditional use permit, seeking permission to install 70-foot poles with LED light fixtures to illuminate the soccer competition field at the complex. The usage of lights will be subject to the conditions set by the City of Boise Planning and Zoning Commission.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone who was involved in this process, including the city, our neighbors, our athletic department staff and our partners on the university’s capital planning team,” said director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey. “While we still have a number of steps in front of us, we are excited to have the city’s blessing. Adding lights at our soccer venue would make a significant positive impact on the student-athlete and fan experience and I am inspired by our team’s effort to get to this point.”
Gaining approval from the city was the culmination of a six-month process. Boise State hosted a town hall in May, inviting residents from the surrounding neighborhoods to learn more about the proposal, ask questions and voice their concerns. A formal meeting with neighbors of the soccer complex took place in August, and feedback was integrated into the final application materials.
The conditional use permit will allow the university to install lights at Boas, subject to State Board of Education approval.
Boise State women’s soccer has called the Boas Soccer Complex home since 2003 - the program’s sixth season in existence. The complex is also the site of Boise State’s indoor tennis center, as well as offices and locker rooms for the soccer and tennis programs.
