BOISE, Idaho – Alyssa Christensen signed a National Letter of Intent to play women's basketball at Boise State in 2023, head coach Gordy Presnell announced, Wednesday.

Christensen, the No. 3 junior college recruit according to girlsbasketballreport.com, joins the Broncos from the College of Southern Idaho, where she averaged 8.1 points and 5.3 rebounds as a freshman for the Golden Eagles in 2021-22. The 6-foot-3 forward shot 45.6 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from the arc last season.

Christensen was also named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Academic First Team last season after posting a 4.0 GPA.

"We are excited about Alyssa joining our program," Presnell said. "She is an academic All-American and one of the top junior college players in the country. She is a long, trail post that can space the floor. She will be a great Bronco."

Originally from New Plymouth, Idaho, Christensen had a decorated high school career. She led her team to a third-place finish at the Idaho 2A State Championship in 2021, where she earned first-team all-tournament honors. Christensen also excelled as a junior for the Pilgrims, earning a spot on the 2A Idaho All-State Team after averaging 12.5 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.

"I am very excited," Christensen said. "It has always been a dream of mine to play at Boise State, especially since it's only an hour from home. The program has always been successful and the coaching staff is great. They have everything I need to improve not only as a student-athlete but as a person as well."

Broncos Add Eight to 2023 Class



BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women’s soccer has added eight players as a part of the 2023 recruiting class, head coach Jim Thomas announced Wednesday.



“The 2023 class is an amazing class for us filled with so much talent that we feel like will be the future for Bronco Nation to see Boise State continue at the top of the Mountain West,” said head coach Jim Thomas. “There’s local talent, talent from the top teams in the country, and it’s a really star-studded group of players.”



Nicole Anderson – Forward



Anderson comes to Boise State from San Diego, Calif., where she attended Del Norte High School. The forward was named the Nighthawks’ most valuable offensive player in 2020 and 2022. Anderson played club soccer for HB Koge Slammers ECNL, a team that was crowned ECNL National Champions in 2021.



What Coach Thomas Says: “Nicole is a central forward who’s really dynamic and an incredibly hard worker with electric pace. She has such ingenuity around the goal and is someone who is industrious in the way that she plays. She’ll create opportunities for herself and her team and is an incredibly creative player that way.”



Lexi Chatterton – Defender



Chatterton is a Boise-native who attended Bishop Kelly High School. Lexi played on the backline of a Knights defense that produced 10 shutouts in 2022 on their way to a 4A state championship. The three-time 4A SIC All-Conference First Team defender played club soccer for the Boise Timber Thorns with which she won the 2018 USYA Presidents Cup National Championship.



Lexi is the younger sister of current Bronco defender Ali Chatterton and former Boise State forward Aubree Chatterton (2017-21).



What Coach Thomas Says: “Lexi is the third installment of the Chatterton family and is the strongest and most reliable defensive player out of all of them. She’s an incredible central back, a talesman kind of player that will patrol the backline for the future for us.”



Olivia Collins – Forward



Collins joins the Broncos from Bozeman, Mont., where she attended Gallatin High School. The forward amassed an impressive 88 goals in her high school career, including 42 her senior year during the Raptor’s run to a 2022 AA State Championship title. Collins was recently named Montana’s Eastern AA Player of the Year for girls soccer for the third consecutive season. Collins is familiar with the Boise area as she played club soccer for the Boise Thorns ECNL.



What Coach Thomas Says: “Olivia is listed as a forward but can literally play anywhere on the park. She’s another unbelievable athlete out of Montana who is tremendous on the ball and loves to carry it with confidence with both sides on the left and right foot. I think she’s going to be one of those players that we really try to see which position she assimilates first but has all the talent to play anywhere up front as an attacking player.”



Cindy Conner – Forward



A native of Orange, Calif., Conner joins the Broncos after a successful prep career at Villa Park High School. Conner collected Crestview Second-Team All-League honors in 2022 after helping her team to the Division One CIF semifinals. The forward played club soccer for HB Koge Slammers and was a part of the team that won the ECNL U16 National Championship.



What Coach Thomas Says: “Cindy will be a player that gives us somewhat of an edge. She’s a tough hombre that will make sure that we are competitive at all times. She hasn’t found a tackle that she doesn’t like and she really enjoys getting after it against their opponents and I love that about here. She’s a goalscorer by trade but I think is a player that could play in many different positions.”



Asia Lawyer – Forward



A local product out of Boise, Lawyer comes to Boise State after a standout career at Centennial High School. Lawyer was a four-year starter in her high school career, leading the Patriots in goals each season. Lawyer earned 2022 all-conference first team honors as she led the Patriots to the 5A state championship game. The local-product competed in club soccer for Boise Thorns 05 ECNL, a team that was the 2022 National ECNL Playoffs Showcase B Champions.



What Coach Thomas Says: “Asia is another local product and the future for us at central forward. She’s just a magician up there and is so fast with such creative movement. What she chooses is what we do on a daily basis and I really feel like she’s one of those players that is going to fit in right away. She really is a tremendous goalscorer, a tremendous finisher, and a wonderful young woman.”



Molly McCabe – Goalkeeper



McCabe will join the Broncos as a walk-on for the 2023 season. The Boise native played goalkeeper for Borah High School where she earned an all-conference award in each of her four seasons, including a first-team selection her junior season. McCabe played club soccer for the Boise Thorns.



What Coach Thomas Says: “Molly will bolster our goalkeeping stable. She’s a tremendous local product as well with great athleticism and wonderful ball-striking skills which has become a necessity for our team at the goalkeeper position. She plays the game with great athleticism, great diving range, and there’s a great pop to the way she plays.”



Frankie McGuire – Defender



McGuire comes to Boise from Fullerton, Calif., where she enjoyed a successful prep career at Rosary Academy. The defender was named all-Trinity League in 2021 and served as her team captain in her junior and senior seasons. McGuire played club soccer for the Slammers FC ECNL and helped lead a team that was 2022 Showcase Cup B Finalists in 2022.



What Coach Thomas Says: “Frankie is a wide back that will revolutionize the league. She’s unbelievably athletic and covering 120 yards is nothing for her. She’s only touching the surface to how much she can influence the game and get back and that’s what we’re looking forward to developing in her. As a defender and as an athlete at wide back she’s as good as anybody in the league right now and we’re hoping she comes in and influences our team right away.”



Kaitlyn Slocum – Midfielder



Slocum hails from Meridian, Idaho, where she played prep soccer at Rocky Mountain High School. The midfielder was named the 2022 5A SIC Player of the Year after tallying 18 goals and 18 assists. Slocum played a big role in the Grizzlies’ back-to-back state championships in 2019 and 2020, logging 18 goals and three assists in her first two seasons with the team. The Treasure-Valley native played club soccer for the Boise Thorns ECNL, winning the 2018 USYS Presidents Cup National Championship.

She is a leader for the future and I see her being a member of our leadership group very soon. BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Athletics received a $1 million commitment, director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey announced Wednesday. The donor has requested to remain anonymous.

The gift is the seventh $1 million commitment to the Lyle Smith Society since the philanthropic giving society started in December 2020.

"Thank you Bronco Nation for investing in our Power 5 mentality," said Dickey. "Your commitment helps us stay competitive and maintain an elite environment for our student-athletes to succeed."

The donation is allocated to capital improvements, including the north end zone project.

Last month, the Idaho State Board of Education approved the issuance of a design-build bid and to proceed with the planning and design stage of the project. The north end zone facility will impact every Boise State student-athlete and significantly impacts all four pillars of the What's Next Initiative: student-athlete experience; revenue generation; infrastructure; and marketability.

"It is incredible to see Bronco Nation rally behind the vision for Boise State Athletics with this level of support," said Mike Keller, associate athletic director for major gifts. BOISE, Idaho – Boise State defeated Multnomah 121-64 in the opening game of its season, Monday, breaking a school record for points scored in a single game.

The Broncos (1-0) raced out of the gates, leading the Lions 23-8 midway through the first quarter. The team didn't let off the gas in the first half and took a 68-34 lead into the break, with four players having already reached double figures.

The team continued the pace in the second-half, outscoring Multnomah 53-30 over the final two periods, including a Linsey Lovrovich three-pointer with 48 seconds left to break the previous scoring record of 117.

Huntsville, Ala. – Rorianna Chartier and Sierra Land wrapped up play at the AVCA National Championships, Sunday, losing a consolation bracket match to Brooke Buchner and Maya-Lucia Gessner (California) 21-13, 21-17.

The Bronco pair went 1-2 in pool play on the first day of the three-day event to earn a spot in the championship bracket. The duo lost their first match of bracket play and was sent to the consolation bracket. The pair finished the weekend 1-5.

The rest of the Broncos traveled to Grand Canyon for the Lopes Invitational, where the team competed against Arizona State, Arizona and the host school in two separate single-day tournaments. The Broncos finished with a combined record of 18-24 over the course of the two days.

DALLAS, Texas – Boise State men’s tennis wrapped up the 2022 fall campaign this weekend in Dallas at the SMU Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge.

The four Broncos went a combined 8-7 in singles and 4-4 in doubles.

Boise State sophomore James Van Herzeele and junior Caden Moortgat led the way in singles both going 3-1 overall. Moortgat’s combined singles and doubles record was 6-2; he went 3-1 with Simon Arca Costas in doubles.

Van Herzeele won his first three contests before falling in his final match of the tournament on Sunday. He recorded wins over Ethan Muza of Baylor and two over players from SMU.

Moortgat won his three matches in straight sets with the loss going to three sets. Among his victories were a 7-5, 7-6(5) battle over SMU’s Jack Winkler and a 6-3, 7-6(5) win over Baylor’s Chris Frantzen.

In doubles, the tandem of Arca Costas and Moortgat went 3-1 with victories over teams from Wichita State, Baylor and SMU. Their lone loss of the tournament came Saturday in a tiebreaker to Harvard’s duo of Ronan Jachuk and Steven Sun by a 7-6(7) score.


What’s Next

This tournament completed the fall schedule for Boise State. The Broncos will take the rest of the semester off while preparing for the team dual season which starts in mid-January.

Infrastructure is a key pillar of the What’s Next Initiative and includes Albertsons Stadium as one of the 12 priorities critical to position Boise State Athletics for future success and sustainability.

The gift is anticipated to support the purchase and installation of LED lights at Albertsons Stadium as part of continued Experience Blue renovation efforts to enhance the game day experience for fans and student-athletes.

“Our goal of creating an elite fan experience will be possible through this incredible gift,” said Cody Gougler, senior associate athletic director for external affairs. “While we still have process and details to work through, our vision will be to utilize LED lights to impact the in-game atmosphere and serve as a value-add for additional events hosted in Albertsons Stadium throughout the year.”

Future details and developments on the stadium lighting project will be provided in the coming months.

The gift comes as an additional contribution to a previous commitment toward Boise State’s Lyle Smith Society. A leadership giving society to support Boise State Athletics, the purpose of the Lyle Smith Society is to increase philanthropic revenues, providing consistent funding for scholarships, operational needs and capital projects.

BOISE, Idaho – As a thank you to Bronco Nation for its continued support, Boise State women's basketball announced that its exhibition game against College of Idaho on Nov. 4 will be free for the general public. Fans will not need tickets to enter ExtraMile Arena for the game, which tips off at 6:30 p.m.

The Broncos return four starters from last year's campaign as head coach Gordy Presnell begins his 18th season at the helm. Presnell is the winningest coach in program history with a 317-211 record and is 15th among active NCAA head coaches in career wins with 713.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State men’s basketball was picked to finish third in the Mountain West men’s basketball preseason poll, released Wednesday. The poll was voted on by media members who cover the conference and announced on the opening day of the 2022 Mountain West Men’s Basketball Media Days.

The Broncos are no stranger to out-performing its predicted order of finish. Boise State was predicted to finish fourth in the conference’s preseason poll prior to becoming only the fifth program in conference history to win the regular season title outright as well as the conference tournament title.

San Diego State was predicted to win the conference, garnering 16 of the 20 first-place votes. Wyoming garnered the other four first-place votes.

Boise State will open the two-day, virtual conference media days on Wednesday, with head coach Leon Rice, senior guard Marcus Shaver Jr., and sophomore forward Tyson Degenhart taking the stage at 2:30 p.m. MT.

Both Shaver and Degenhart earned All-Mountain West recognition last season. Shaver was named to the conference’s second team, while Degenhart was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year in addition to earning honorable mention honors.

The all-time wins leader in program history, Rice enters his 13th season at the helm of the program with a 244-145 record. Rice has led the Broncos to eight postseason appearances, including three trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Fewer than 200 season tickets remain for the upcoming season. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) Ashton Jeanty scored on a 1-yard run and Jonah Dalmas kicked four field goals Saturday night to help Boise State beat Air Force 19-14.

Jeanty's TD capped a 13-play, 63-yard drive that took more than 6 minutes off the clock and opened the scoring with 5:14 left in the first quarter. Dalmas kicked field goals of 42 yards about 3 minutes later and 29 yards early in the second quarter before his 51-yarder gave Boise State (5-2, 4-0 Mountain West) a 16-0 lead with 9 minutes to go in the first half.

Haaziq Daniels capped a seven-play, 75-yard drive with a 15-yard touchdown run that got Air Force (5-3, 2-3) on the board with 6:18 left in the second quarter but Dalmas answered with a 39-yard field goal just before halftime that made it 19-7.

Brad Roberts ran for 90 yards - including a 3-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter - on 25 carries for the Falcons. Daniels finished 4-of-8 passing for 96 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions and added 70 yards rushing on 14 carries

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State running backs coach and player development director Winston Venable is stepping down from his position to pursue other opportunities, head coach Andy Avalos announced Thursday.

“Winston is one of the greatest players to suit up for Boise State, and has done a tremendous job of mentoring not only our running backs, but every young man that has chosen to play for the Broncos over the last several years,” Avalos said. “Although he is leaving his current role, he will always be part of this brotherhood and I know he will find a way to continue to impact our student-athletes.”

Venable completed his second season as running backs coach in 2021, and had served as the Broncos’ player development director from 2018-19 and in 2021.

Venable starred at linebacker at Boise State during the 2009-10 seasons. In his debut campaign with the Broncos, his interception in the final minute sealed a 17-10 victory over TCU in the Fiesta Bowl.

“I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to come back and impact a program that helped shape who I am today,” Venable said. “The lessons I learned from being a Bronco – as a coach, staff member and student-athlete – will be with me for the rest of my life.

“This program is in great hands with Coach Avalos, and I am excited to see the Broncos continue to win championships and compete amongst the elite teams in college football.”

A two-time All-Western Athletic Conference selection, Venable signed a free agent contract with the Chicago Bears following his Boise State career. He played in the Canadian Football League with the Montreal Alouettes from 2012-16, where he was named a CFL All-Star in 2015.

Venable was named to Boise State’s All-Blue Team, a celebration of the greatest players to hit The Blue during its first 30 years. Following his professional playing career, he returned to Boise State and earned his bachelor’s degree in communication in 2017.
