Broncos Announce Series’ with Rice, UTEP

BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State football team has agreed to home-and-home series’ with UTEP (2021 and 2022) and Rice (2023 and 2024), Director of Athletics Mark Coyle announced Monday.

The Broncos and Miners will meet in Boise Sept. 4, 2021, and in El Paso, Texas Sept. 24, 2022.

The Owls will visit Boise Sept. 9, 2023, and the Broncos will travel to Houston Sept. 7, 2024.

Boise State will exchange a guarantee of $300,000 with each school.

Boise State is 5-0 all-time against UTEP, defeating the Miners in the 2000 Humanitarian Bowl (38-23) and in four meetings as members of the Western Athletic Conference from 2001-04. The Broncos are 1-1 against Rice, each game coming while the schools were opponents in the WAC (2001-02).

Rice and UTEP are each currently members of Conference USA, a league the Broncos have gone 8-2 against all-time.

Today’s announcement completes the nonconference schedule for both 2022 and 2023. The Broncos still have one nonconference game to secure for 2021, and the game at Rice is the first nonconference contest for 2024.

We are committed to this Texas relationship. While not sexy I think it's shrewd and well player. Houston is a great place to recruit... ElPaso not as much but I can see the value

yup ... Boise has great success recruiting the Houston area and even if El Paso doesn't have a lot of recruits it still gives the families of Texas players on the roster an opportunity to see their boys play. win win.
