Boise Flips Matt Pistone

The journey Matt Pistone took to committing to Boise State isn't exactly what would be deemed "normal". The 6'4'' 235 pound tight end out of Yuma Catholic high school verbally committed to Oregon State early in the summer, but when Mike Riley unexpectedly took the Nebraska head coaching position, Pistone was left up in the air about his commitment. Shortly after that Pistone scheduled an official visit to Boise State, and had an in-home visit with Coach Drinkwitz. Oregon State was scheduled to have an in-home visit with him the next day, but had to cancel when the Athletic Director called all the recruiters off the road, after the hiring of Gary Andersen from Wisconsin.

Pistone always spoke very highly of Boise State and Coach Harsin. "They're an amazing program, it's coach Harsin's first year at Boise and he took the Mountain West, they do things right in Boise." Pistone also said it was important to him that he had a great relationship with Coach Drinkwitz.

Adding Pistone gives the Broncos even more depth at tight end, and could be a great compliment to Chase Blakely who is redshirting for BSU this year. Pistone is a good route runner, with above average hands, but his best skill seems to be his ability to put his hand in the dirt and block. Pistone's tape is full of plays where he pushes defenders 10+ yards down field. Pistone is the second athlete BSU has flipped from a Pac-12 school in the past two years, evidence of Harsin's persistence at going after the nation's best recruits, no matter the circumstance.

Pretty great get for Harsin. I love the way this kid plays TE... He looks like he loves to block!
