San Diego State looks to be as good or even better than they were last season. San Diego State actually improved AFTER they lost their starting QB to injury and they lost only two starters on Offense and only two starters on Defense (plus their Placekicker). That's it..........only four starters total lost on Offense and Defense from the 2012 team. The hardest hit area is at the two CB spots for San Diego State as they lost both of their starters at the CB spots.
The hardest hit area on Offense would be at the Center position where SDS lost both of their top two guys on the Depth Chart (Alec Johnson and Jimmy Miller - both 2012 Seniors). San Diego State responded to that by moving their returning starter at RT to the Center spot. That being (2012 Sophomore) Zach Dilley.who stands 6' 5" and weighs in at 295 lbs (extremely tall for a Center).
The San Diego State offensive line for next fall "appears" to be the following:
OFFENSIVE LINE - Returning starters listed in Bold print
LT: Bryce Quigley (SR, 6-5, 295)
LG: Japheth Gordon (SR 6-3, 295)C: Zack Dilley (JR 6-5, 295) - Starter last season at RT
RG: Nico Siragusa (R-FR, 6-5, 315) - 3rd String RG on 2012 Depth ChartRT: Terry Poole (SR 6-5, 300) - 3rd String RT on 2012 Depth Chart
QUARTERBACK
Adam Dingwell (2012 Sophomore) returns as the (very) likely starter. He replaced the original starter last season, Ryan Katz (transfer from Oregon State). Katz was injured very early on during the Nevada game last fall (the 8th game of the season). Dingwell replaced Katz after that. Katz BTW had a QB Efficiency Rating last season of 151.61 and Dingwell's QB Efficiency Rating was only 121.03 but as a team SDS played better (IMO) after Dingwell replaced Katz. Dingwell will likely BE the starter for SDS next fall BUT they do have SIX quarterbacks on their roster currently. However NONE of the other five QB's have ANY experience. The question is who does SDS turn to if Dingwell goes down with an injury next season?
BOISE STATE NOT THE ONLY TEAM WITH PLAYER ISSUES
Four San Diego State players are being held out of the spring football practices and not due to injuries. According to the local paper there in San Diego which quoted SDS head fooball coach Rocky Long as saying: ""whether they are on the team or not is up to them."
"It's not the same issue, but there's issues with all those guys," Long said.
"Some of it is personal issues, some of it is team policy issues. So
all of them, they're all different situations and they have certain
things they have to accomplish by the end of spring break, and I will
determine if they're still on the team or not."
Three of these four players were identified as San Diego State's starting punter (and 2nd string PK last season - behind a Senior) and starter for Kickoffs, i.e., Seamus McMorrow (2012 RS FR). 2012 RS FR Safety Darius Guillory (listed as 2nd string at the "Aztec" Safety position last fall) and 2012 RS FR Wide Receiver Larry Clark (listed as a 4th string WR on the 2012 depth chart). Who the 4th player is has not yet been determined (by the San Diego Tribune newspaper that is).
