BOISE, Idaho – Sophomore infielder Alison Seng has been named to the 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List, the organization announced on Wednesday. Entering its 18th season, the award recognizes outstanding athletic achievement by Division I female collegiate softball players around the country.

A year after she became the first Mountain West athlete to be named to the NFCA’s top 25 watch list for Freshman of the Year, Seng now becomes the third player in program history to be named to USA Softball’s watch list, joining Devon Bridges (2012) and Tara Glover (2013).

The 2018 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, Seng is one of 10 sophomores to be featured on the preseason watch list for one Division I softball’s highest honors. She is one of 10 athletes from schools outside of the Power-5 conferences, and is the only Mountain West player on the watch list.

In her freshman season, Seng quickly made a name for herself on the Boise State record book. The Garden Grove, Calif., native posted a batting line of .439/.516/.643 en route to being named first-team all-conference and third-team All-Pacific Region. Seng scored 40 runs on the season, while batting in another 36. She set a Boise State freshman record with 14 doubles on the season, adding six home runs to her dominant season at the plate.

The top 25 finalists will be announced on April 24, with the top 10 being announced on May 8, and the final three finalists being named on May 22. The 2019 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be named on May 28 at the Women’s College World Series. A player does not have to be featured on the top 50 preseason watch list.
