Spring Game Format Announced

BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State football team will hold its annual Spring Game presented by Zabransky and Clark Real Estate Saturday (April 8), beginning at 5 p.m. at Albertsons Stadium. This year’s edition will feature a new format, and Boise State will be providing more opportunities to get fans involved in the action.

Despite earlier reports, no longer will the offense square off against the defense. Instead, the team will be split into two squads, matching Boise State versus the Broncos. The Broncos, driving toward the Broncos’ end zone, will be captained by Brett Rypien and Leighton Vander Esch. Boise State, captained by Jake Knight and Avery Williams, will drive toward the Boise State end zone.

Two lucky fans will be selected as honorary captains for the coin toss.

Traditional football scoring will be in place, and change of possession will feature live special teams.

The first half will consist of two 10-minute quarters under standard clock-operating procedures. The second half will feature eight-minute quarters and a running clock.

For the first half, two fans will be selected as honorary coaches, joining head coach Bryan Harsin and his staff on headset. At halftime, the football team will compete in a tug-of-war contest on behalf of two fans, with the representative from the winning side receiving an autographed football from Coach Harsin. Between the third and fourth quarter, two fans will square off in a field goal competition for a chance to win great prizes from Bronco Football.

Following the game, access to The Blue – also sponsored by Zabransky and Clark Real Estate, powered by Boise Premier Real Estate – will be available to all Spring Game attendees. Head coach Bryan Harsin, assistant coaches, student-athletes and former Bronco quarterback Jared Zabransky will be on hand following the game for photo opportunities.
