BOISE, Idaho – A school-record-tying six Boise State Athletics programs received Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA for having multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the top-10 percent of their respective sports nationally, the NCAA announced Wednesday. Included were beach volleyball, men’s golf, women’s golf, gymnastics, men’s track & field and women’s tennis.

For the second-straight year, the six Public Recognition Awards are the most in the Mountain West, and are tied for the most in a single year in conference history (Air Force, 2004-05).

“We are wrapping up another successful year within athletics, both in competition and in the classroom,” Director of Athletics Curt Apsey said. “Our coaches continue to bring student-athletes into our programs that are ready and prepared to succeed, and our academic support staff is doing an amazing job with them while they’re here.

“I’m proud of the efforts of everyone involved, which has ultimately resulted in record-setting academic performances.”

The Broncos’ women’s golf team has received a Public Recognition Award in each of the last six years, while women’s tennis has earned the accolade in each of the last five. This is the third-straight honor for men’s golf, while gymnastics and beach volleyball have each received the award each of the last two years.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, providing a measure of each team’s academic performance.

The full APR report, which will include 2017-18 scores for all teams, will be released by the NCAA next Wednesday (May 23).
